거의 모든 영어사전에는 위치를 표현동사들은 자동사로 표현됩니다.
하지만 위치동사도 타동사로 사용할 수 있습니다.

위치동사가 자동사 : 주어가 어디에 위치하다 위치동사가 타동사 : 주어가 무엇을 어디에 배치하다

자동사 : 타동사 :

I stay in my house. I stay him in my house.

(자동사 : 나는 집에 머문다)
(타동사 : 나는 그를 내 집에 머물게 했다)

1. 위치동사의 자동사와 타동사 의미차이

위치동사가 전치사 없이 목적어를 가지게되면 사역적인 의미를 내포합니다.

I live him in my house.
I live with him in my house.
(그를 내 집에 살게했다 : 사역적)
(그와 함께 내집에 산다 : 자동사)

I want to stay you by the wood.
I want to stay with you by the wood.
(나는 너를 나무 옆에 머물게 할거야 : 사역적)
(나는 너와 함께 나무 옆에 머물게 할거야 : 자동사)

They established their headquarters in Busan.
They positioned their headquarters in Busan.
(그들은 본부를 부산에 설립했다)
(그들은 본부를 부산에 배치했다)

	They located their headquarters in Busan.
⇒	Their headquarters was located in Busan.
⇒	Their headquarters located in Busan.
	(그들의 본부가 부산에 위치한다)

물론 위치동사이 to 부정사를 가지면 주어의 의지 또는 마음을 표현합니다.

I will live to be 200.
I will live to love you.
(200 살까지 살거야)
(너를 사랑하며 살 거야)

They remain the best of friends.
They remain to be the best of friends.
(그들은 최고의 친구로 남을 것이다)


2. 위치동사의 이동

위치의 이동을 표현하는 동사들도 원칙적으로는 자동사이지만
타동사처럼 사용할 수 있습니다.
이러한 사역적인 현상은 위치이동을 표현하는 동사에서도 발생합니다.

I drive to the airport.
I drive my car to the airport.
(나는 내차를 공황으로 몰았다)

I walked my dog on the street.
I walked with my dog on the street.
(개를 산책시켰다 : 사역적)
(개와 함께 산책했다 : 자동사)

put , place 와 같은 동사들도 사역적인 의미를 내포하고 있습니다.

I placed her into the hospital.
I put her into the hospital.
(나는 그녀를 입원시겼다)

	I plant apple tree in the orchards.
⇒	I plant the orchards with apple tree.
	(나는 과수원에 사과나무 심었다)

위치이동동사의 구문형태는 던지다 라는
동사의 구문형태와 비슷합니다.

	Place the grass seed over the lawn.
⇒	Put the grass seed over the lawn.
	(나는 잔디에 종자를심었다)

	Scatter the grass seed over the lawn.
⇒	Scatter the lawn with grass seed.
	(잔디에 종자를 뿌려라)

	Put the ball into the room.
⇒	Throw the ball into the room.
	(공을 방에 던져)

3. lay , lie , set 비교

lay - laid - laid , laying , lays
lie - lay - lain , lying , lies
set - set - set , setting , sets

lay 과 lie 는 서로 문의 구조가 다릅니다.
lie 의 과거형이 lay 라서 많이 혼동을 합니다.
lay는 근본적으로 타동사이고 lie 는 자동사입니다.

lay : 무엇을 어디에 깔아 놓다 (타동사)

I laid the carpet on the floor.
(나는 카페트를 바닥에 깔았다)
⇒ The carpet was laid on the floor by me.
⇒ The carpet laid on the floor.

The bird lays some eggs in my house.
(새가 약간의 알을 내집에 깔았다 / 낳는다)
⇒ Some eggs are laid in my house.
⇒ Some eggs lay in my house.

lay 뒤에 바로 전치사가 오는 것은 문의 변형에
의한 것이므로 lay는 자동사는 아닙니다.

She had laid $100 on the gamble.
They had laid $100 for future.
(그녀는 도박에 100달러를 놓아 두었다)
(그는 미래를 위하여 100달러를 놓아 두었다)


lie : 어디에 누워있다 (자동사)

Clothes were lying all over the floor.
The cat was lying asleep by the fire.
(옷들이 바다 여기저기에 놓여 있다)
(고양이는 난롯가에서 잠이 든 채 누워 있었다)

Lie down here and take a rest.
Lie on your left side, please.
(여기 누워서 좀 쉬어라)
(왼쪽으로 돌아 누우세요)


lie : 누구에게 거짓말하다 (to sb about sth)
liar : 거짓말 쟁이

Don't lie to me about your age!
Don't tell a lie to me about your age!
(너의 나이에 대해서 거짓말 하지마)

They did not lie to me for a second.
I didn't mean to tell a lie.
(그들은 절대 나에게 거짓말을 하지 않았다)
(거짓말을 할 의도는 없었습니다)

I mean that you are a liar.


set : 무엇을 어디에 설치하다(타동사)

put : 무엇을 어디에 놓다
set : 무엇을 어디에 설치하다
arrange : 무엇을 어디에 배열하다

She put some tray down on the table.
She set some tray down on the table.
She arranged some tray down on the table.
(그녀는 테이블 위에 쟁반을 내려 놓았습니다)
(그녀는 테이블 위에 쟁반을 내려 놓았습니다)
(그녀는 테이블 위에 쟁반을 조금 배치했다)

I arranged my cars to drive the airport.
I set my watch to wake up at 7.
(나는 공항으로 갈려고 내 차들을 배열시켰다)
(나는 7시에 일어나려고 내 시계를 셋팅했다)

I set my watch at 7.
I set my watch by the TV.
(나는 TV를 보고 내 시계를 맞추었다)

She set the camera on automatic.
(그녀는 카메라를 자동으로 맞추었다)

She set the sapphire in the gold ring.
She set the gold ring with the sapphire.
(그녀는 금반지에 사파이어를 셋팅했다)

He pulled the lever and set the machine in motion.
The hijackers set the hostages free.
Her remarks set me thinking.
(그가 레버를 잡아당겨 기계가 돌아가게 했다)
(납치범들이 인질들을 풀어 주었다)
(그녀의 말은 나를 생각에 잠기게 했다)


4. 위치동사와 변화동사 비교

변화동사의 구문형태와 위치동사의 구문형태는 기본적으로 비슷합니다.

	You changed me into a murderer.
⇒	I was changed into a murderer.
⇒	I changed into a murderer.

	You put me into the room.
⇒	I was put into the room.
⇒	I put into the room.

	The machine can compress gas into liquid.
⇒	Gas can compress into liquid.

5. 위치동사의 수동태

위치동사 수동태는 목적어가 주어가 되면 됩니다.

	You put me into the room.
⇒	I was put into the room.

	You changed me into a murderer.
⇒	I was changed into a murderer by you.

	They located their headquarters in Busan.
⇒	Their headquarters was located in Busan.

다만 live 처럼 자동사 성격이 강한 것은 수동태를
잘 사용하지 않습니다.

	I live him in my house.
⇒	He is lived in my house by me.
